Why Do Young People Struggle to Leave Their Family Home?

Young people struggle to leave their families because there are not enough jobs out there. Another reason is that there are many cultures in which the family is close-knit. However, the deeply rooted for this struggle is always money.

In Spain, the average age by which a young person leaves home is 30. In the European Union, it is at 26 or 27. Based on studies, those who leave their families between ages 19 and 29 have dropped steadily in the last decade.

Despite economies booming as far back as 2006, there are still many people who are unemployed. Many students graduate after college, but they struggle to find work. As a result, they have to live with their parents. On top of this struggle, a job does not guarantee that a person can afford rent. Local housing prices are always on the rise, and the meagre salary of many young people is never enough to make ends meet.

In the EU, houses typically cost €800 and €1,000 in a month for rent, not in amortization. This price is an exorbitant amount of money to young people. The average salary of young people is only about €900. If €800 of that goes to rent, then nothing is left.

Youth unemployment is a problem. Globally, the rate of unemployed youth is at 13.1%. In Spain, the rate is 33%. It is not a problem that only Spain is facing, but the entire world. Even if young people find jobs, they do not earn enough. Add to that the fact that more than half of these jobs are contractual. 26% of these jobs are just part-time.

Is the Government Doing Something About the Problem?

Different countries have different approaches. All these projects to help the youth find jobs are in accordance with what they deem as the root cause of the issue.

China

In China, they have a quality apprenticeship program plus what they call life-long education. This project is planned to be in collaboration with the Ministry of Human Resources. The aim is to provide a robust skill development system for people. These are skills that they can bank on to look for jobs, not only in China but abroad. These programs consistently adapt to labour market changes globally. As a manufacturing hub, China is in a good position to have a project like this. If they have a highly skilled labour force, they can secure contracts from global companies.

Cambodia

Like what is happening in Europe and Spain, young people in Cambodia are facing challenges when it comes to finding work. Those who are employed have to deal with low wages and poor working environments. What the government is doing is to help build institutional capacities to further the skills of their young people. They are working with educational facilities to enhance the educational system. This process includes services that have something to do with employment readiness, empowerment and the development of foundational skills.

Philippines

In the Philippines, the government is focusing on reducing child labour. There are an estimated 2.1 million child labourers in the country, mostly in the south. These children work in plantations and farms. They also work in dangerous facilities and some work in private homes as domestic helpers. Child labour is child abuse. These children never go to school, much less learn anything. As they reach their teenage years, they will not have the mental acumen to compete for better-paying jobs.

The Philippines has also opened up its shores to the online gambling industry and international casinos like https://vulkan-vegas.pl/pl.  Not that they are operating casinos for Filipinos to gamble, but rather, they are now welcoming online casino operators, provided that these services are blocked to the Filipinos.  The companies operate remotely. They hire Filipino youth to facilitate live-dealer games online. The customers are foreigners. Also, the government is subsidizing some of the business costs of these companies in exchange for jobs.

Thailand

In Thailand, there is a project called Young Futuremakers. It is a project in collaboration with the Standard Chartered Bank. The project aims to support young people in their search for jobs.  The focus is to give attention to disadvantaged youth, especially young women who have disabilities. It involves the provision of training that would enhance the technical skills of young people. They would provide guidance and support to increase the employability of the participants.

Summary

The youth of the world is in a precarious position. While the global problem of education has seen a resolve in the last decades, a new problem emerges: work. Despite getting a degree, there are many people struggling to find work. If at all, the world governments must start relaxing some of their laws to allow investors, as it is going to pump money in their respective countries.
